What to Expect in Your First Reiki Session

If you’ve been feeling stuck, frazzled, or like you’re running on empty, Reiki might be the breath of calm you’ve been searching for. Your first Reiki session can feel mysterious if you’ve never tried energy healing before, but it’s actually one of the most grounding, gentle experiences you’ll ever have.

In this post, I’ll walk you through exactly what to expect from the moment you walk in, to the peaceful energy that follows you home.


🌿 What Is Reiki, Really?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese energy healing technique that helps balance the mind, body, and spirit. It’s not about religion or belief systems it’s about restoring flow where stress and emotion have created blocks.

Think of it as clearing out the energetic “clutter” that builds up over time. Just like you’d tidy a messy room, Reiki tidies your inner energy so you can breathe again.


When You Arrive

When you come in for your first Reiki session, expect a calm, safe space soft lighting, gentle music, and absolutely no pressure. This is your time to pause.

I’ll chat briefly with you about how you’re feeling, what’s been going on emotionally or physically, and what you’d like to focus on. (Even if that’s just, “I need to feel more like myself again.”)

You’ll lie down fully clothed on a treatment bed, close your eyes, and simply relax. I’ll gently place my hands either just above or lightly on areas of your body, following your energy’s natural flow.

Many people feel warmth, tingling, or waves of calm. Some drift into a dreamy sleep. Others release emotion gently a few tears, deep breaths, a sense of letting go. However it unfolds, it’s exactly what your energy needs in that moment.


🌙 After the Session

When it’s over, you’ll likely feel grounded, lighter, and more peaceful like your nervous system just exhaled for the first time in ages. Drink plenty of water, and give yourself permission to take it slow for the rest of the day.

Over the next few days, you might notice clarity, better sleep, or emotions surfacing. That’s all part of your body rebalancing itself.
